Welcome, Brave One!
Coming to therapy can be a challenging experience & it can also be life-enriching. No matter what your particular struggles, pains, and/or goals are, there is hope. Hope could be you reading these words.
Encounter Therapy was birthed out of a passion to offer an authentic relational encounter. The name reflects my deeply held belief that we are imagined in relationship, we are formed and harmed in relationship, and we can be healed within the relational encounter.. Through the authentic and unique therapeutic relationship, it is my desire to create a safe space of non-judgment, respect, and care so that you may explore aspects of yourself that are not yet fully known and live life with a better sense of choice and opportunity. My hope is that you will find your mind, your voice, and learn how to use it in kind and loving ways toward yourself and in relationships. We are all living out the myths and stories we were taught. The process of a therapeutic journey can help you understand what stories and myths you are living out and help guide you to the way you want to show up in the world vs. how you were taught to show up. I believe that psychotherapy is most successful when time together is regularly scheduled and frequent. Seeing clients once a week is always where I begin.
“People come to therapy not to fix what is broken, but to have what is broken blessed.” James Hillman

Your sacred space is where you find yourself again and again.
This is a place where you can simply experience and bring forth what you are and what you might be. This is the place of creative incubation. At first you might find that nothing happens there. But if you have a sacred place and use it, something eventually will happen.
Your sacred space is where you find yourself again and again.
The commitment to encounter is a commitment to life.
(Goizueta, 2010)

Solstice Prayer
Take this well of grief
And fill it with gold
Take this darkness
And flame it to shattering light
I honor the darkness
These lessons of the cold alone
And trust the balance even here–
The darkness, within and without;
The light, distant as the moon,
The light, as close as breath.
